Joanna X Chen is a Registered Migration Agent, founder, and cross-border strategist based in Brisbane, Australia.
As the Director and Principal Migration Agent of Ugrant Migration, Joanna has spent years helping highly skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry leaders build their future in Australia through complex migration pathways, including the Global Talent Program and the National Innovation Visa.
But her work has never been only about visas.
It has always been about recognising potential, positioning it clearly, and helping the right people access the right future.
The work began with migration.
The vision became much larger
Joanna founded Ugrant Migration after building her experience across skilled migration, employer-sponsored visas, business and investment migration, complex appeals, and Global Talent cases.
Over time, she saw a pattern. Many accomplished people were not being held back by lack of ability. They were being held back by poor positioning.
Their work was valuable, but not clearly explained.
Their achievements were significant, but scattered across documents.
Their potential was real, but not connected to the right opportunity.
This became the foundation of Joanna’s work.
She helps people translate achievement into a clear, credible, and strategic story.

Joanna’s background gives her work a distinctly cross-cultural lens.
She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hokkien, and has been involved in Australia-China business and community engagement through organisations including the Australia China Business Council Queensland and the Australian Fujian Association.
She has also contributed as a mentor, guest speaker, and educator, including with Griffith University and international migration professionals.
Across all of this, Joanna’s role remains consistent.
She helps people understand where they stand, what they carry, and how to move forward with strategy.
